The Oresteia
The Oresteia by Aeschylus with its three plays: Agamemnon – The Libation Bearers – The Eumenides.
ΑΓΑΜΕΜΝΩΝ – AGAMEMNON
Agamemnon opens the trilogy with the return of the king from Troy. The victory he brings home is shadowed by betrayal, sacrifice, and the weight of fate. The work examines power, guilt, and the beginning of a cycle of blood that will demand justice.
ΧΟΗΦΟΡΟΙ – CHOEPHOROI (THE LIBATION BEARERS)
Choephoroi follows Orestes and Electra as they return to avenge their father. Guided by duty and haunted by the past, they confront the violence that has shaped their family. This chapter moves from mourning to action, pushing the cycle toward divine reckoning.
ΕΥΜΕΝΙΔΕΣ – EUMENIDES
Eumenides brings the trilogy to its resolution. Orestes, pursued by the Furies, seeks judgment in Athens. The ancient conflict between personal vengeance and civic justice transforms into a new order. The cycle of blood ends, giving way to balance and law.
